HEALING WITH HYPERBARICS

Excitement is building as HYPERBARIC SPA prepares to open its doors and begin offering treatments at Sunrise Office Center, Fort Myers, Florida. On November 3, 2025.

A "hyperbaric spa" refers to a wellness center or spa that offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) as part of its services. HBOT involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber, increasing the amount of oxygen your blood can carry and enhancing the body's natural healing processes. Spas may offer HBOT for various reasons, including improving athletic recovery, reducing inflammation, enhancing cognitive function, and improving skin health. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is the medical use of oxygen in a pressurized environment, at a level higher than 1 atmosphere absolute (ATA). Increased pressure allows for oxygen to dissolve and saturate the blood plasma (independent of hemoglobin/red blood cells), which yields a broad variety of positive physiological, biochemical and cellular effects. This noninvasive therapy is the most trusted way to increase oxygen levels to all organs of the body. The typical treatment lasts for 60-90 minutes, during which the patient lies down and breathes normally.

HBOT has been demonstrated in several clinical studies to enhance the body’s innate ability to repair and regenerate. It is used as an adjunct therapy to complement and enhance the healing process in both chronic and acute condition

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy – What are the benefits for Senior Citizens?

HBOT is just that, a scientifically validated therapy that’s been around the block, providing relief to divers with decompression sickness, people who’ve suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning, and those wrestling with hard-to-heal wounds.

Recently, respected medical institutions such as The Mayo Clinic have turned their magnifying glasses toward the potential benefits of HBOT for conditions like Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Multiple Sclerosis. In our golden years, our bodies need an extra dollop of care, and this therapy could be a step in the right direction.

What's more? This oxygen-rich therapy isn’t just an  for maintaining peak performance — think Cristiano Ronaldo, Michael Phelps, LeBron James, and Tom Brady. Celebrities like Justin Bieber, Keanu Reeves, and Mark Wahlberg have reportedly stepped into the rejuvenating embrace of an HBOT chamber.

One striking aspect of HBOT that might be music to your ears is its potential to enhance cognitive functions. We all want to stay sharp as we age, don't we? Well, studies have shown that healthy seniors can indeed experience cognitive improvements with HBOT.

However, dear friend, like all medical treatments, HBOT  isn't a one-size-fits-all. It's essential to consult with your healthcare provider to understand if this therapy aligns with your unique health requirements. Your doctor can offer personalized advice on whether and how you should go ahead with HBOT. Now, for the best part: if you’re interested in exploring this oxygen-enriched journey, you're in luck!  Unlocking the Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Enhance Your Health with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Amild hyperbaric session (mHBOT) is a procedure in which individuals are exposed to an environment of increased pressure and breathe in an increased amount of oxygen. These unique conditions enhance the biological regeneration capabilities of the entire body

By regulating the biochemistry of all body systems, the body achieves healthy harmony and immunological defense, leading to faster regeneration and improved well-being.

  • Naturally accelerates healing times and boosts immunity
  • Increases regenerative active follicles and elevates skin healing for wounds and burns
  • Removes toxins and helps the body fight infection
  • Stimulates new tissue growth for quicker natural recovery and healing
  • Reduces post-burn edema and inflammation
  • Oxygen is the white blood cells' weapon to kill bacteria
  • Creates new blood vessels and repairs damaged ones
  • Triggers collagen growth for healing

Sit back, relax, and breathe.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is an all-natural, non-invasive treatment where a patient simply breathes 100% medical-grade oxygen at an increased atmospheric pressure. HBOT can increase the oxygen concentration in the body by up to 1,200% —this gives it the potential to lead to extraordinary health benefits.

These benefits include:

  • Increased blood flow
  • Encouragement of body tissue regeneration
  • Decreased inflammation and inflammatory proteins
  • Enhanced cellular regeneration
  • Aiding in fighting infection
  • Revitalized mitochondria
  • Killing of anaerobic bacteria in oxygenated environments
  • Enhancement of the body’s natural ability to heal

Celebrities Swear by HBOT – Here's Who Uses It

Hollywood and elite athletes have been early adopters of HBOT — not just for recovery, but for longevity, energy, and performance.

Here are just a few A-listers who regularly use hyperbaric therapy:

Justin Bieber – Uses HBOT for mental clarity and stress relief

Novak Djokovic – Boosts recovery and peak performance

Tim Tebow – Speeds up injury recovery and brain health

Madonna – Credits HBOT for her ageless energy

Gary Brecka – Integrates HBOT into his biohacking routine

Why do they use it? Because oxygen heals and performance, beauty, and recovery all start at the cellular level.

HYPERBARICS AND ANTI-AGING

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) involves breathing pure oxygen under increased pressure, and research suggests it may have anti-aging effects by reducing free radical damage, improving cellular function, and stimulating tissue regeneration. HBOT can also increase telomere  length and clear senocent cells, which are hallmarks of aging. While promising, more research is needed to fully understand its mechanisms and potential limitations.

How HBOT May Help with Aging:

Reduces Free Radical Damage:

HBOT can help combat the damaging effects of free radicals, which contribute to cellular aging.

Other Potential Benefits:Improved Cognitive Function: Some research suggests that HBOT may improve cognitive function, which often declines with age.

HBOT is proven to offer anti-aging benefits

Most people think of hyperbaric medicine for the treatment of decompression sickness, (known as “the bends,” in divers who surface too quickly), but hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has become a mainstream treatment as more Americans turn to hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat serious conditions, such as chronic wounds, diabetic foot ulcers, radiation injury, bone infections, burns, carbon monoxide poisoning, compromised skin grafts and more.

Nationwide, an estimated 1,800 to 2,000 hospitals offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Almost all hospital-based programs strictly treat “indications that have been scientifically validated” by the FDA.

Non-hospital based hyperbaric oxygen programs are more likely to offer “off-label” treatments and the number of specialized wound and hyperbaric centers across the United States is growing. “We’re seeing a growing need for hyperbaric oxygen therapy services in the community,” says John Peters, executive director of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Association.

HBOT has been proven effective in treating virtually any condition in which poor circulation plays a role (from traumatic brain injury to ADD/ADHD), but the latest buzz on HBOT pertains to anti-aging.  So hyperbaric oxygen therapy is proven to offer anti-aging benefits through healing or regrowth of damaged cells and that results in younger-looking skin.

We now know that hyperbaric oxygen can do a lot to reduce the appearance and effects of aging. Clinical studies have demonstrated the benefits of HBOT for age-related degenerative conditions.

Impact of hyperbaric oxygenation on oxidative stress in
diabetic patients

Taking into consideration that high concentration of oxygencan express toxic effects due to production of reactive oxygenspecies (ROS), the aim of our investigation was to establishthe influence of hyperbaric oxygenation on oxidative stressparameters and antioxidant enzymes in patients with diabetesmellitus (DM) type 2. Investigation included 50 patients withDM type 2 divided into two groups.

The first group consistedof 25 patients, mean age 70 years, mean duration of illness 12 years and without manifest peripheral vascular complications (Wagner 0). The second group consisted of 25 patients, mean age 74 years, mean duration of illness 17 years and with manifest peripheral vascular complications (Wagner 1-5). All patients underwent the same therapeutic protocol, whichincluded 10 hyperbaric oxygenation therapies, once a day for a duration of 60 minutes, with an average partial oxygen pressure of 1.7 atmospheres absolute (ATA). In blood samples the following parameters of redox balance were determined: levels of nitrites (NO2-), index of lipid peroxidation (TBARS), superoxide anion radical (O2-), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase(CAT).Our results clearly show that hyperbaric oxygen

(HBO2)therapy does not have a pro-oxidative effect. Additionally, itseems that this procedure strongly mobilized the antioxidantenzyme system, thus improving defense from oxidative damage. All significant data are marked as P<0.05. Our results haveshown that in terms of ROS production, HBO2 can besafe to use in patients suffering from DM type 2 with or without vascular complications.

Hyperbaric Oxygen supports the body’s regenerative capacity

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) provides crucial support for helping to combat accelerating aging along with chronic degenerative condition. This simple and safe procedure provides a surplus of oxygen and cellular energy to help stimulate and enhance the body's reparative and regenerative capacities. "HBOT affects physiological processes at the genetic level by altering gene expression, delaying cell senescence, and assisting in telomere length enhancement. The positive results in a variety of indications, ranging from tissue regeneration to better cognitive function, indicate that it has enormous potential in regenerative and anti-aging therapy." and  here is a quick summary of the results from HBOT:

  • HBOT showed a marked improvement in cognitive functions and neuronal health which usually declines with aging
  • HBOT affects the epigenetic regulation of many critical genes results in physiological consequences in the form of anti-inflammatory effect, anti-apoptotic and regenerative functions
  • The extra oxygen supply is utilized in the process of healing, tissue repair, rebuilding and regeneration.
  • The effect is especially beneficial for older individuals as the overall oxygen carrying capacity and regenerative capacity diminishes with age and HBOT helps to compensate for this apparent lack of oxygen in vital processes of healing and regeneration

  ALZHEIMERS

Alzheimer’s disease — researchers find hyperbaric oxygen reduces amyloid plaques and causes large gains in blood flow to the brain

This exciting new study shows that Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy (HBOT) may REVERSE dementia development by preventing the deposit of new amyloid plaques on the brain cells and even leading to the removal of existing ones! The 2 most common types of dementia are vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). It is now believed that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can effectively help to halt both of these devastating conditions, while also being able to help reverse the cognitive decline seen in the aging process. The production of amyloid plaques are a hallmark of AD, consisting of hard, insoluble accumulations of beta amyloid proteins that clump together between the nerve cells and block their communication. Compounding this, is a reduction in oxygen (hypoxia) and reduction in blood flow to these regions inside the brain. Since the pathophysiology includes both the build up of amyloid plaques and a reduction in cerebral blood flow (CBF), the researchers designed this study to deploy a typical course of HBOT and then observe any changes in both amyloid plaque and CBF, while also documenting any clinical improvements. They did this by presenting a 2-fold study, the first being an animal study which was then followed up with a small human study. Both showed extremely promising results and confirmed previous studies for HBOT’s potential role in treating dementia and memory loss. Initial Animal Study: Mice were exposed to 20 HBOT sessions (2.0 ATA, 60 min) causing a significant:

Move over Prozac; Hyperbaric oxygen demonstrates its anti-depressant effects

If you are suffering from depression and have had a past history of head injury or concussion, then pay close attention to a new study published in the Journal of World Neurosurgery, 2017. It is very well known that 50% of those people that are afflicted with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) will also suffer from major depression and be put on antidepressants like Prozac. However, this and many other reasons for depression, are clearly related to inflammation inside the brain (neuroinflammation). With knowledge of this information, along with the understanding of the anti-inflammatory properties of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) in the brain, researchers carried out a study to help us evaluate and see if HBOT could provide relief for TBI victims suffering from depression. The results demonstrated that HBOT was able to significantly diminish TBI-induced depression-like behavior, through its anti-inflammatory effects in the brain.

Hyperbaric oxygen helps with chronic fatigue sufferers

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) can be a debilitating condition that effects all ares of the individual's quality of life. Since oxygen is a key driver to the body’s energy stores (ATP), it would make sense that this therapy would be of benefit. This study evaluated 16 patients diagnosed with CFS following 3 weeks of hyperbaric treatments. The results documented improvements in all areas measured and noted that their were no complications and the treatments were well tolerated by all participants. Thus, a short 3 week duration of hyperbaric oxygen therapy could result in significant benefits for this patient population, in terms of quality of life

Low pressure hyperbaric therapy shown effective in helping metabolic syndrome and reducing cardiac risks

A new study in the Journal of atherosclerosis and thrombosis published this year shows that low pressure hyperbaric oxygen therapy can be a very effective tool for helping those suffering from metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions — increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels — that occur together, increasing your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. This study looked at only 1.25 ATA (low pressure hyperbarics) and found that this dosage was effective enough to produce a lowering of blood sugars, blood pressure, total cholesterol, and insulin.
